Ace of Diamonds
Ace of Diamonds Painting is a local Longmont, CO based painting company. They provide painting of interior, exterior on both commercial and residential properties. Additional services include cabinet painting, limewashing brick, drywall services, popcorn ceiling removal and outdoor siding projects. What really sets Ace of Diamonds apart from the competition is the process that they follow. This process ensures oustanding, repeatable results every time they do a project.
01. Approach
This project had a tight deadline window and an existing website that was going to be removed so we had to work quickly. Branding was extremely important to Dustin (The Owner) so we tried diligently to get the "diamond" effect on as many sections as possible. The old website was done in Wordpress by an ultra expensive agency that didn't take the time to set things up properly. Not to mention there was a large amount of broken links and site errors that a customer should never expect when hiring a professional developer. I was actually sad that someone had charged Dustin for the site with so many issues. Dustin was clear that he was trying to expand the companies footprint so service pages were a must and those pages should be optimized properly. Online bidding was a requirement to integrate into the business and to give potential customers the chance to upload photos. This allows Dustin and his team the ability to turn around bids much quicker.

03. Technology
The Ace of Diamonds Painting project is a totally responsive design based on CSS Grid Layout with a Flexbox fallback. That means the project is not reliant on an outside library of code like Bootstrap to be fully responsive. The starting point was HTML5 Boilerplate to make sure the project was utilizing current best practices and most browser based styling was reset using Reset.css. We don't utilize templates so all website coding was done by hand using the Brackets code editor. The Ace of Diamonds team is also able to add blog articles, maintain the verbiage and images on the site by utlizing Perch as the content management system. All css files are modular in nature so Gulp was used to combine and condense all CSS files in the final project build in order to make the page load speed better. The final page load speed is a screaming fast 1.1 - 1.4 seconds per page. CSS and javascript animation was created by using the following libraries Animate.css, Hover.css, & T-Scroll.css. Other code and libraries used include Modernizr, jQuery, Akismet and Google Analytics. Software utilized to create this project included Brackets, Photoshop, Perch CMS, VectorMagic.com and CompressPNG.com.
